After only entering the US Car market in 1992, Kia has made steady progress in improving its image and acquiring a better reputation. Originally viewed as a cheap import alternative to manufacturers like Honda and Toyota, Kia has improved their quality and reliability, cementing the brand in the North American vehicle market. Over the years, some Kia models were converted for wheelchair access, but never in great capaity. However, today, wheelchair accessible vehicle users can choose from three different wheelchair accessible Kia models.

Kia Sedona (2005–2021)

The Kia Sedona was first converted for wheelchair access beginning with the Second Generation which was releaded in 2005. The Kia Sedona was originally considered a budget friendly alternative to the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey wheelchair vans, which were also new on the wheelchair van market. The Kia Sedona never gained the popularity of the other brands, but was always available as an option for those who may not have been able to afford one of its imported competitors or a domestically produced van. Over the years, the Sedona would cease to be produced as a side entry wheelchair van, and instead would only be available with a rear entry conversion. This continued up until 2021, which was the last year the Kia Sedona was converted for wheelchair access, due to changes made for the 2022 Kia Sedona.

Kia Soul (2014-Current)

The Kia Soul was an immediate hit upon its release on the North American vehicle market in 2010. Pre orders were filled up and the vehicle was sold out at dealerships across the country. It wasn't until the Second Generation that the Kia Soul was converted for wheelchair access. Due to its size, the Kia Soul was only fit for a rear entry conversion. Technically a SUV, the wheelchair accessible Kia Soul is popular due to its small size, great fuel economy, and relatively low price when compared to other wheelchair accessible vehicles on the market.

Kia Sorento (2015-Current)

The Kia Sorento, like the Kia Soul, is a relatively new option to the wheelchair accessible vehicle market, having only been converted starting with the 2015 model year. Like the Kia Soul, the Sorento is a wheelchair accessible SUV, albeit one that offers more interior space than the Kia Soul. The Kia Sorento is one of the few mid-size SUVs able to be converted for wheelchair access, and is substantially cheaper than its mid-size SUV competition.
