Wheelchair Accessible Trucks
Wheelchair accessible trucks give drivers and passengers who use wheelchairs the towing power, ground clearance and cargo space of a full size pickup. Mobility Express has helped Florida families find wheelchair accessible vehicles since 1985, and our specialists can match you with the right truck and the right conversion.
Types of Wheelchair Accessible Truck Conversions
There are two main ways to make a pickup truck wheelchair accessible. The right one depends on whether you want to stay in your chair or transfer to a seat.
In Chair Lift Conversions
A hydraulic lift and platform carry you and your wheelchair into the cab. The door opens, the platform lowers to the ground, and you roll on and ride up. You can drive from your wheelchair or ride as a passenger.
Best for power chair users, anyone who cannot transfer, and anyone who wants to avoid loading a wheelchair into the truck. Available from Ryno Mobility and ATC.
Transfer Seat Solutions
A powered swivel seat such as the BraunAbility Turny Evo rotates out of the truck and lowers to a comfortable height. You transfer from your wheelchair, then the seat lifts you into the cab.
Best for drivers who can transfer. The Turny Evo fits more than 200 vehicle makes and models, and the installation is reversible. Pair it with a wheelchair loader or carrier to bring your chair along.
Truck Models That Can Be Converted
Conversion options depend on the truck make, model, cab style and model year. Here is what Ryno Mobility and ATC currently offer for full size pickups.
| Truck | Models | Conversion by |
|---|---|---|
| Chevrolet Silverado | 1500, 2500 and 3500, including dually | Ryno Mobility, ATC |
| GMC Sierra | 1500, 2500 and 3500, including dually | Ryno Mobility, ATC |
| RAM | Mega Cab 2500 and 3500; 1500 on select models | Ryno Mobility (Mega Cab), ATC (1500) |

Wheelchair Truck Conversion Manufacturers
Ryno Mobility
Ryno is a Florida builder based in Clearwater. Its conversions use front and rear doors that open out, with a platform that swings out of the cab and lowers to the ground. Ryno converts Chevrolet and GMC pickups, RAM Mega Cab trucks and the Ford F-150, with interior lift systems that keep the truck bed free.

ATC (All Terrain Conversions)
ATC converts 2015 to present Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks with a hydraulic lift system. The side of the truck raises like a gull wing, and the platform rotates out and lowers to the ground. Driver side and passenger side conversions are available, and ATC builds for power chairs, manual chairs and the original factory seat. Published specs list a 750 lb lift capacity.
Benefits of a Wheelchair Accessible Truck
A minivan is the right answer for many people. A truck is the right answer for others.
- Towing capacity. Haul a boat, camper or trailer without giving up wheelchair access.
- Ground clearance and 4x4. Many converted trucks are available with four wheel drive for dirt roads, fishing spots and rough terrain.
- Cargo space. The truck bed carries gear, tools and equipment, and works for both personal and work use.
- Independence. A lift that lets you enter and exit on your own means you can go where you want, when you want.
- A vehicle you already like. Keep the cab, brand and styling you prefer instead of switching to a van.
How to Choose the Right Truck Conversion
Start with these questions. Your answers narrow the field fast.
- Will you drive or ride? Conversions are built for the driver position, the front passenger position, or both.
- What wheelchair do you use? Size, shape and weight of your chair affect which conversion fits.
- Can you transfer? If yes, a transfer seat may be the simpler option. If not, an in chair lift is the answer.
- 2WD or 4WD? Match the drivetrain to where you will use the truck.
- New or preowned? A preowned converted truck can save time and money, and it ships ready to drive.

Wheelchair Accessible Truck Cost
The price of a wheelchair accessible truck is the price of the truck plus the conversion. Conversion cost depends on the manufacturer, truck model, driver or passenger setup and options such as lowered floors, hand controls and wheelchair restraint systems.
Buying a truck already converted removes the guesswork. If you already own a truck, we can tell you whether it can be converted. Review your payment options, or call for a quote on a specific truck.

Wheelchair Accessible Truck FAQ
Can a wheelchair user drive a pickup truck?
Yes. In chair lift conversions let you drive from your wheelchair, and transfer seats let you move into the driver seat. Hand controls and other driving aids can be added.
Which trucks can be made wheelchair accessible?
Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, RAM and Ford F-150 pickups are the most common. See the model table above, or contact us with your year, make and cab style.
Can I convert the truck I already own?
Often, yes. It depends on the make, model, cab style and model year. Send us the details and we will confirm what is possible.
What is the difference between a lift conversion and a Turny seat?
A lift conversion carries you into the truck while you stay in your wheelchair. A Turny seat swivels out and lowers so you can transfer from your chair into the seat.
Do converted trucks still tow and go off road?
Converted trucks keep their pickup bed and many are available in 4x4. Towing and payload ratings depend on the truck and the conversion, so confirm the specifics for the model you are considering.
