Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles
_______________________________________________
Famous for iconic cars such as the Corvette and the Camaro, Chevrolet has also made a name for itself first building trucks, vans, and SUVs. Similar to the Ford Econoline full size vans, the Chevrolet Express full size vans were some of the first vehicles commonly converted for wheelchair access, due to the heavy duty nature of the vehicle and the large interior space. Over the years, wheelchair van converters started using Chevrolet minivans, trucks and SUVs for their converison models. Today, you can buy a wheelchair accessible Chevrolet van, pickup truck, or SUV.

Chevrolet Express Full Size Vans (1996–Current)

The Chevrolet Exporess full size vans, much like the Ford Econoline vans, were some of the first vehicles commonly converted for wheelchair access. Offering powerful engines and suspensions offered a solid platform for what, at the time, were modifications that would add a lot of weight to the vehicle. Combined with a large interior space and conversion items like lowered floors, raised roofs, and raised doors, the Chevrolet Express full size wheelchair vans soon gained popularity and would become a staple of the wheelchair van market for years to come. The fact they are still being produced by Chevrolet and converted for wheelchair acess is a testament to the handicap accessibility and quality of Chevrolet Express full size wheelchair vans.

Chevrolet Uplander (2004-2010)
_______________________________________________
While full size vans were the norm for the wheelchair accessible vehicle market for many years, there was a transition that started in the 1990's and carried on into the 2000's. Chevrolet decided to produce a minivan to compete with the more modern offerings from their domestic rivals at Ford and foreign rivals at Honda and Toyota. The Chevrolet Uplander was never produced in as great of numbers as any of its competitors, but wheelchair van conversion manufacturers took notice of its large interior space and robust powertrain, then decided to convert it for wheelchair access. It offered a domestic built, budget option for a wheelchair accessible minivan at a time when the prices of minivans began to rise relatively rapidly due mostly to new technology.

Chevrolet Traverse (2021-Current)

The newest Chevrolet Traverse has made several key improvements over previous mobility crossover vehicle conversions, including increased floorspace that can fit two wheelchairs, a three-person 3rd row seat, and a widened doorway and ramp. Interior features include an adjustable shifter that slides to allow for additional space when the vehicle is being driven, as well as adjustable armrests, center console and cup holders, all of which are modular to ease mobility constraints. Throw in a 5,000 lbs towing capacity and the Chevrolet Traverse with BraunAbility MXV conversion is the most capable wheelchair accessible SUV ever built.

Chevrolet Silverado (2007-Current)

Offered as a niche conversion for many years, wheelchair accessible pick up trucks were always wanted by consumers, but the demand wasn't quite strong enough for manufacturers to spend the time and money in research and development to produce a reliable wheelchair accessible pickup truck. As years have passed, the technology used to make a wheelchair accessible truck conversion possible has become more refined, leading to a better overall experience for the consumer. With many trucks offering 4-Wheel drive and heavy towing capacities, for some consumers it is the only option that will work for them, and now they have a few conversion options to choose from on the Chevrolet Silverado.
